The first question we ask ourselves when we decide to organize a holiday at Canary island is always the same: Is better the north or south part of Fuerteventura?

Given that most travelers have an average of a week to visit the island, the balance will inevitably tip based on what we expect from this trip.

Regardless of your interests, our advice, to get a complete idea of all the beauty of the nature of Fuerteventura has to offer visitors, is to divide your trip.

On the first time you can stay a some days on the nothern part of the island and others in the souther part.

You can choose between Corralejo, El Cotillo, Lajares, the most beautiful cities of Fuerteventura, and enjoy the natural places of the noth of the island.

Then you can move towards the south part of Fuerteventura, Costa Calma and Morro Jable and enjoy the enchantment of wild and incontaminated nature.

Or you can decide to stay at Caleta de Fuste or Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, strategic points to move towards the south or north of the island.

My ideal vacation is to be on the beach and relax

If your interests are mainly focused on beaches and relaxation, our advice is to stay between Costa Calma and Morro Jable .

In Costa Calma , a resort frequented mainly by German tourists, there are many all-inclusive hotels and resorts, with impeccable, first-rate services.

From Costa Calma you can easily reach all the most beautiful beaches in the south of the island, but you will have to give up the nightlife and shopping.

If you want to take a windsurfing or yoga course, or go on excursions of any kind, then you’re in the right place.

A good alternative is to stay in Morro Jable , which is about a 20-minute drive from Costa Calma .

In the town of Morro Jable , you will find both hotels with direct access to the sea, or comfortable apartments with sea views, at a slightly higher price than in Costa Calma and many other towns on the island.

Morro Jable has a beautiful 4 km long beach ( Playa del Matorral ) and a small centre, where it is not difficult to find bars, restaurants, cafés and ice cream parlors.

Natyraly this town of Fuerteventura offers all the visitors the possibility of taking long walks along the seafront.

That said, if you enjoy shopping, clubs, and nightlife, you can focus your attention on Morro Jable.

My ideal holiday is sea, shopping and nightlife

If you are more energetic and want to go to the beach, shop, have aperitifs, surf and go clubbing, you can focus on the northern part of the island, especially the town of Corralejo .

In Corralejo , there is a large Italian community and all the entertainment that the island has to offer is concentrated within a few kilometers.

Corralejo is a very lively town, an excellent starting point for reaching the most beautiful beaches located in the north of the island.

The airport is about 20 minutes away, but we recommend renting a car to avoid being tied to public transport.

Here you will find hotels, apartments, holiday homes and resorts, very easily and at a wide variety of prices.

My ideal vacation is to visit the whole island

If you have planned to visit the whole island , from north to south, and you only have a week to spare, you can divide your stay in this way:

  • 2-3 days in the South between Costa Calma and Morro Jable
  • 2-3 days in the North between Corralejo – El Cotillo – Puerto del Rosario
  • 1 day to visit Lobos Island

We recommend starting from the southern part of the island , to become familiar with the island and enjoy all the beaches on this stretch of coast.

Afterwards, you can leave the coast and reach the northern part of the island, passing through beaches overlooking the sea and the town of Bentancuria, the island’s former capital.

To reach the northern part, using the internal road, you should plan on driving for 2-3 hours (pay attention to the speed limits).
