Jurado beach, a magical place of Fuerteventura

Jurado beach is located approximately 500 metres north of the Ajuy Caves and belongs to the municipality of Betancuria and borders the municipality of Pájara.

Features of Playa del Jurado

This beach is one of the few to have different names, as the maps of Fuerteventura were drawn up by geographers, surveyors and military personnel from outside the island.

What to see on this beach?

Barranco de las Peñitas is one of the most fascinating places in Fuerteventura, a wonderful tale made of incredible oases of palm trees and mysteries.

Via a path, retracing the scenic riverbed, you reach the Eremita de la Peña where there is an alabaster statue of the Virgin protector of the island.

In addition to being an area of ​​great scenic interest, it also has one of the few dams on the island, built after the Spanish Civil War.

Now the Las Peñitas dam is unused because it is full of sediment accumulated over the years, so it barely collects water.

Formed by wind erosion, the Arco de las Peñitas is a magnificent rock formation that the universe has bizarrely sculpted in the Betancuria Rural Park.

The Arco de las Peñitas gives the impression of having been created by the hands of a giant, who distorted the rock to give it its current shape.

Its sinuous curves hypnotize the visitor, and have a powerful power to stop the flow of time.

Reaching Playa del Jurado at low tide is a unique experience, as you can explore its wonderful cave , a natural pool.

Archaeological sites are found here and for the Mahos, the Peña ravine was one of the borders that divided the territorial demarcations of Guise and Ayose.

The Mahos settled on both sides of the ravine.

 

Is it possible to swim in Playa Jurado?

The currents and the force of the waves on this coast are very strong and swimming in Playa Jurado is not recommended, especially for children.

However, if you reach this beach at low tide you can enjoy a dip in the wonderful natural pool that forms.

You should always be cautious when the tides change, as even if you are an expert swimmer the ocean currents in this area can become dangerous.

Jurado Beach has recently become a favorite spot for traditional fishermen, stargazers and photographers.

How to get to Playa Jurado?

Playa Jurado is located in an idyllic and rugged natural landscape on the west coast of Fuerteventura and impresses with an impressive rocky backdrop.

The rock arch in the shape of a huge gate is the center and optical highlight of the beach.

Swimming is not recommended due to dangerous cliffs, strong currents and high waves, so it is popular with sailing and water sports enthusiasts.

The location does not offer organized facilities and the waves mean that this stretch of coast is not recommended for less experienced swimmers and children.

From Puerto del Rosario take the FV-225 towards Antigua , continue on the FV-50 towards Tuineje, then on the FB-30 towards Pajara.

Continuing on FV-621 towards Ajuy.

Once we arrive at Madre del Agua we continue for another 3 km and find ourselves at our destination.
