Mirador de Morro Velosa at Fuerteventura

The Mirador de Morro Velosa is located at Betancuria between the Rural Park , the Massif and the Santa Inés Valley on Mount Tegú, 669 metres above sea level.

In this viewpoint of Fuerteventura, with rocks and volcanic flows, there is a temporary exhibition centre, designed by the famous Lanzarote architect César Manrique .

The Mirador building displays a harmonious integration of the construction with the surrounding nature, with materials, shapes, and colors similar to the landscape.

The earth tones of these arid landscapes are marked by green and white spots, which represent centuries-old cultures of the island of Fuerteventura.

Also very close by is the Mirador de Ayoze e Guize with the statues of the two ancient Guanche kings of Fuerteventura.

Before the Spanish conquest, Ayoze and Guize shared the government of the island, one for the northern part and one for the southern part.

The Guanches were the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands before the arrival of Europeans, many historical details of which are still unknown.

History of the Mirador de Morro Velosa

From the Mirador de Morro Velosa you can admire: the coastal town of El Cotillo, Mount Tindaya , the city of Antigua and the volcanoes near the town of Tiscamanita.

Although the statues are so close to each other, it is said that the hatred between the two actually favored the Spanish conquest, failing to adequately repress them.

You can easily reach the statues of Ayoze and Guize , accessible to the public, paying attention to their position very close to two sharp bends.

A few years ago, next to the Mirador de Morro Velosa , you could see the “ Captador de bruma” , an experiment of the Canary Islands government to obtain water using natural methods.

This “ Fog Collector” consists of a metal structure in which plastic panels are installed.

When clouds collide with them, water is captured and carried to gutters that collect and then store it.

How to get to Mirador de Morro Velosa?

This viewpoint, one of the unmissable natural sites,  is located 26 km from Puerto del Rosario, reachable in 30 minutes.

Follow the FV-20 towards Casillas del Angel and then continue on the FV-30 towards Almacigo and Valle de Santa Ines.
