Pico de la Zarza, the roof of Fuerteventura

In the Jandía Natural Park , in an area of ​​over 14,000 hectares, is the Pico de la Zarza, also called the roof of Fuerteventura.

Trekking on the highest mountain in Fuerteventura

This mountain arose from one of the three major volcanic eruptions that, twenty million years ago, formed the island of Fuerteventura. 

Its landscape of gentle slopes contrasts with the majestic presence of the Jandía Massif, crowned by the Pico de la Zarza, with its 807 metres of altitude.

Access to the rocky ridges is like climbing a natural staircase, from the sea to the top of the mountain, perceiving the grandeur of a wild and imposing territory.

There are many species such as the cardón de Jandía, symbol of Fuerteventura, capable of withstanding the lack of rain and the high salinity of the environment. 

And as for the fauna of the highest peak of the island, up to 28 species of birds are found, the most characteristic of Fuerteventura.

During the descent of the Pico de la Zarza, what seemed unattainable becomes reality: taking a dip at Cofete beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura.

How to get there?

Pico de la Zarza is approximately 22 km from Morro Jable in the municipality of Pàjara, a 46-minute drive.

We continue on the FV-2 towards Playa de la Señora, leaving Mirador de Cofete and Villa Winter behind.

The route has sections of dirt road, you have to walk for about 8 kilometers of permanent uphill, with excellent signage, which takes about three hours. 

From Jandia Park, with the wind usually constant, you proceed along a slope of just over six kilometers until you reach the Vinamar ravine.

The climb offers impressive views, but once you reach the top you can enjoy spectacular and unique landscapes.
