The mysterious Villa Winter at Fuerteventura is a legend that attracts the most curious visitors, it is located in the small village of Cofete in the municipality of Pàjara.
It was designed by the German engineer Gustav Winter, a German engineer who stood out for his numerous projects in Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.
Villa Winter, built in 1946, features two floors, a basement, a tower on the northeast side with 360-degree views, and a front balcony.
The house has a very unique layout, with thick walls, barred doors, tunnels, and even a bunker.
The villa was renovated in 1985 and its location in one of the most isolated corners of the island is impressive, where it can be accessed by a steep stone path.
Legends about Villa Winter tell of underground tunnels in the seaside villa, and even that it served as a refuge for Hitler at the end of the war.
The legend of the Villa
Villa Winter has sparked much controversy and is the subject of numerous tales and legends on the island of Fuerteventura.
One of these says that it is built on land that has exactly the same shape and proportionally the same size as the island.
This place is said to have been a refueling base for the Nazi U-boat fleet during World War II.
Although it can be said that this is physically impossible, due to the shallow waters in the area.
This legend is mixed with other equally unlikely ones, such as the one that it could have been enjoyed at the parties of Nazi officers during the war.
Inside Villa Winter there is a room with floor drains, which appears to be a crematorium, which they say was used as a laboratory.
And finally, the tower of the house is said to have been used as a surveillance post, from where communications from submarines were received by emitting light signals.
Despite this, there are still legends that have deepened the fantastic charm of the place, surrounded by the splendid beach of Cofete.
How to get there?
Villa Winter is located approximately 22 km from Morro Jable and takes 46 minutes by car.
To reach the house, take the FV-2 from Morro Jable towards Cofete .
Along the route, the presence of a long stretch of dirt road makes the journey difficult.
You must drive carefully and moderate your speed.
