La Lajita is a small fishing village, located in the southeast of Fuerteventura in the municipality of Pàjara with a population of almost 1,700 inhabitants .

Precisely La Lajita is located 12 km from the tourist area of Costa Calma and only became a beach area in 1990.

This tourist development has led to the construction of accommodation facilities within the town, but its seafront with the black volcanic beach has remained intact.

The inhabitants of La Lajita have traditionally been involved in agriculture, livestock farming and fishing, but the new generations have also joined the service of tourism.

In the last decade it has experienced notable urban development due to the progress of tourism, thanks to its proximity to Costa Calma, one of the most important tourist centres in Fuerteventura.

But this has not prevented La Lajita from losing its charm as a coastal town, retaining the structure of the old white houses of the Majoreros.

Places of interest in La Lajita

Despite being a small village, La Lajita captures the attention of every tourist who comes to visit the island of Fuerteventura.

Oasis Park Fuerteventura is one of the most visited places not only by tourists, but also by residents of the island of Fuerteventura.

With 1,000,000 m2 of outdoor space to explore in every corner, respecting the environment, Oasis Park in La Lajita is one of the most beautiful excursions in Fuerteventura .

A journey in close contact with nature, where the beauty of wild and uncontaminated nature marries perfectly with silence and harmony.

At Oasis Park Fuerteventura , with numerous research and conservation projects there are:

  • 1,500 species from around the world
  • 8,000 plants
  • 3,000 animals
  • 400 camels

The Mercado Agro Artesanal is a place of culinary culture that brings together the best merchants of the Canary Islands and is located within the Oasis Park in La Lajita .

An unmissable event with free access on Sundays linked to the Majorera culinary tradition and craftsmanship with raw materials from the island of Fuerteventura.

Mercado Agro Artesanal offers a new opportunity to purchase high-quality organic products such as: cheese, sweets, vegetables, fruit, legumes and honey.

In addition, there is an ever-increasing variety of handcrafted products such as: painting, photography, fabrics, costume jewelry, furniture, lighting, Aloe Vera – based cosmetics and souvenirs.

Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Fatima , a small, very picturesque church, typical of Majorera, is one of the places not to be missed in La Lajita .

A mix of white structure, decorations with volcanic stones and the dome with the bell tower, attract not only tourists but also residents.

Mirador de La Lajita , is one of the most beautiful panoramic points on the island of Fuerteventura and is located just 850 m from La Lajita Beach.

From the Mirador de La Lajita you can admire the beauty of the village, which extends along the ocean with spectacular views at sunset.

Lajita Beach

La Lajita beach is a very small, intimate, romantic and idyllic beach with a length of 915 m and a width of 20 m.

The sand on this beach of Fuerteventura is black volcanic with bright blue stones around where they meet the calm, clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The beach is not crowded and there are no beach services, but its promenade is perfect for a walk and admire one of the most beautiful sunsets in Fuerteventura .

Although it is not one of the most visited beaches by tourists, Playa De La Lajita has some small beach bars where you can have a drink.

Playa de La Lajita is ideal for a relaxing day in close contact with nature, as it is one of the least windy beaches of Fuerteventura .

Thanks to the climate of Fuerteventura , mild all year round, on this beach you can practice kayaking, kitesurfing and canoeing , but it is not one of the areas where you can practice surfing in Fuerteventura .
