Tesejerague is a rural area of 1,200 inhabitants in the municipality of Tuineje in the southwest of Fuerteventura.
The village is set up as a small settlement in the middle of a landscape of spectacular dry land plains surrounded by green palm trees.
The origin of the town of Tesejerague is due to the existence of fertile lands that led to the occupation of this area by farmers and shepherds.
This small, very beautiful and peaceful rural village, until the 18th century, belonged to the jurisdiction of the municipality of Pàjara.
In the small village of Tesejerague there are a few small bars, restaurants and holiday homes.
This rural village in Fuerteventura is the ideal place for those who want to relax, while being in close contact with the wild nature of the place.
Tesejerague almost does not appear in the tourist guides of itineraries in Fuerteventura , but is worth a visit in the municipality of Tuineje for a day of trekking atFuerteventura .
Typical characteristics of the village of Tesejerague
In Tesejerague presides the majestic figure of Mount Tirba, where deposits of prehistoric livestock structures and archaeological material appear.
As well as aboriginal habitats and structures of large circular stones that could have been intended for burial.
Much of the architectural wealth of Tesejerague is found in its hermitage, where San Jose is venerated, which dates back to the 18th century.
Ermita de San Jose de Tesejerague was declared a Property of Cultural Interest with the category of monument in 2007.
Around the Ermita de San Jose , built around the 18th century, we find buildings such as the cultural centre, the sports centre and the school.
As well as a children’s playground and a new picnic area which has tables and chairs in the shaded areas and is also equipped with barbecue stoves.
Hermitage of San Jose
Ermita de San José, a small church, is located in the centre of the village of Tesejerague , at the bottom of a small valley and protected by the hills.
Ermita de San Jose has a single-story roof with three waters and tiles , two doors framed in light stone and surmounted by a round arch.
In the upper right part of the facade is the bell tower, more modern and in the shape of a small temple.
The Hermitage of San Jose de Tesejerague has a small Calvary, with a circular brick step, painted white and surmounted by a wooden cross.
The altarpiece made of wood, which is located at the head of the temple and whose characteristics place it within the style of the first Canarian Baroque of the Chinese Rococo.
The festivities in honor of San José in Tesejerague are celebrated on the first Sunday of August.
How to get to Tesejerague?
Tesejerague is approximately 46 km from Puerto del Rosario the capital of Fuerteventura and it takes 43 minutes to get there by renting a car or taking a taxi in Fuerteventura .
Proceed on the FV-20 towards Morro Jable and then on the FV-511 towards Tesejerague this beautiful city of Fuerteventura.
