Jarugo beach, a golden sand paradise in Fuerteventura

On the west coast of the island of Fuerteventura is the charming Jarugo beach, which belongs to the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, between Los Molinos and Tindaya.

Playa de Jarugo is one of the favorite destinations of the island’s inhabitants and little known by tourists and almost does not appear in the tourist guides of Fuerteventura.

This beach extends for about 250 m and is an open bay surrounded by small cliffs, which make it unique and protect it from the winds.

An extraordinary sight are the small waterfalls that form on the rocks when the ocean waves crash against them.

Fine golden sand, crystal clear ocean waters, Jarugo beach, a hidden paradise is the ideal place for a perfect tan in any season.

At this beach of Puerto del Rosario during certain periods of the year, you need to be very careful when bathing, due to the strong waves that make bathing more difficult.

The characteristics of the beach and the services available 

Playa de Jarugo , like most beaches of Fuerteventura, is not equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, lifeguards or even bars and restaurants nearby.

On the left side of the beach there is a natural dam where the waves crash with force, the ravine where the Majoreros took the goats to graze.

Near Jarugo beach you can also find the remains of kilns where lime was produced, as well as a little above the beach an enclave worth visiting.

The beach is not very crowded with tourists, but water sports enthusiasts often take advantage of these high waves to practice surfing.

In short is very quiet and the ideal place for those who want to spend a relaxing day at the beach away from the chaos and immerse themselves in unspoiled nature.

On days with low tide you can cross the dam and find yourself in a spectacular and solitary cove for more privacy, often frequented by nudists .

How to get to Playa Jarugo?

As in most of the most beautiful beaches of Fuerteventura and at the same time well hidden and little known, access is not easy.

The great diversity of beaches of Fuerteventura is what makes it unique and inimitable, the east coast with wide beaches of fine sand and moderate waves.

On the other hand, the westerns coast with small or large cliffs and mostly unpaved access roads, gives the island a special charm.

Playa de Jarugo is located 26 km from Puerto del Rosario , following the FV10 towards Tetir and Tamariche and continuing towards Tindaya and then towards the beach.

The road to the beach in the last 6.2 km, turning slightly to the right, is unpaved and you need to drive carefully and with an adequate vehicle.

To reach Jarugo beach it is possible only and exclusively by taxi or with a rental car and near the beach there is a large and convenient parking lot.
