Mirador de Sicasumbre at Costa Calma, belonging to the municipality of Pajarais one of the most spectacular places in the south of Fuerteventura’s island.

Stargazing is a rapidly growing activity in Fuerteventura , especially in relation to astronomical observation.

Thanks to its unspoiled nature, low population density, and non-existent light pollution, Fuerteventura is a prime spot for starry skies that are impossible to see anywhere else in Europe.

The island of Fuerteventura is a Biosphere Reserve and has earned the “ Starlight Reserve ” recognition.

This recognition is given only to places that allow a perfect view of the night sky in the total absence of light pollution.

There is no better place in Fuerteventura to observe the magic of the starry sky and the beauty of silence.

The Mirador de Sicasumbre , one of the natural sights of Fuerteventura, offers a magical view.

Far from inhabited centers, from here you can also observe the fainter stars, the planets and the spectacular luminous cloud of the Milky Way.

Features of Mirador de Sicasumbre

Mirador de Sicasumbre is located about 300 meters above sea level and in the early night hours you can also admire the Spica , a renowned star in early spring.

This star is the main star of the constellation Virgo.

At the Mirador de Sicasumbre there are also information panels with details on the location of the constellations, a sundial and a vertical dial.

Here, more expert enthusiasts and the curious can place the necessary supports and install telescopes and cameras to admire the constellations.

This area is characterised by little vegetation and the access path is very well signposted.

Halfway along the trail, there is a rest area with a wooden pergola and a large sign that says “Fuerteventura,” accompanied by several goat sculptures.

The Sicasumbre Astronomical Viewpoint features interactive features, such as a scale model of the solar system to view the planets in the sky.

It also features a skyline for observing the solstices and equinoxes.
