For adventure lovers, off the beaten track and in the heart of Fuerteventura’s hidden treasures, the caves are one of the best trekking routes .
The route to the lava caves is made up of dirt roads that can be travelled with a quad rental or in a buggy in Fuerteventura.
But once you get there, it’s worth it, as you struggle through the winding tunnels to admire the beauty of this enchanting place.
When to go to Los Estancos Cave?
Los Estancos Cave is a year-round destination , thanks to Fuerteventura’s mild, sunny climate and ever-present trade winds.
The ground is made up of tiny, very fragile volcanic rocks, so you need to be careful.
Also, it is not a place to visit during the darkest hours, as there are large holes in the ground that go almost vertically underground.
When looking for a new way to experience the beauty of every corner of Fuerteventura, this unique underground adventure will leave you breathless and wanting more.
From rugged terrain to stunning geological formations, there’s no shortage of breathtaking views and hidden treasures to discover.
Some little tips to follow during your visit to the Los Estancos cave , one of the most beautiful excursions in Fuerteventura:
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a sweatshirt for windier days.
- There are no bars or restaurants in the area, so you’ll need to bring everything you need.
- Long stretches of dirt road and ravines called “ barrancos ” make it essential to use a suitable car, or a buggy or quad.
How to get to the Los Estancos cave?
Los Estancos Cave is located 7.8 km from Puerto del Rosario, a 10-minute drive.
Starting from Puerto del Rosario, follow the FV-3 and then the FV-10 towards Tetir.
The road to get there is very winding and has long dirt stretches, so you need to drive very carefully and at a moderate speed.
They are located on the side of the volcano and you can park your car on the side of the road that goes up the volcano and simply follow a path that leads to the caves.
As you walk and look into each opening, you discover more and more caves with several openings to larger caverns that you can easily enter and explore.
