Tetir, a farming village in the hinterland of Fuerteventura

Tetir is a farming village in the hinterland of Fuerteventura, belonging to the municipality of Puerto del Rosario and with a population of approximately 1122 inhabitants.

The town of Tetir is located on a beautiful avenue lined with palm trees and traditional houses and dominated to the north by Mount Temejerague.

Years ago it enjoyed a certain prosperity thanks to its fertile land, but today many of these terraced fields have been abandoned.

In the Plaza Juan Rodriduez , where the church of San Domenico stands, a statue recalls that Juan Rodriguez Y Gonzales, the founder of the Bank of the Canary Islands, was born in Tetir.

Shortly before Tetir on the FV-10 road, in the town of Los Estancos was the old airport of the island of Fuerteventura.

The airport runway led straight onto the road and traffic had to be stopped for every plane take-off and landing.

What to see in Tetir?

The church of Santo Domingo de Guzman , built in 1745 and became a parish in 1777, is very characteristic.

A bell tower and white walls, volcanic stone corners and the interior of the church preserves an 18th century Baroque altar.

The tranquility and calm that can be felt in this place are interrupted by the few tourists who come to visit it.

Vega de Tetir Craft Market , a small but very popular market where you can find stalls with different products handmade by local artisans.

Ceramic pieces, Canarian food products, all in an atmosphere of authentic Canarian folklore with musical shows and food stands.

Temejeregue mountain, is located 1.5 km northwest of the village of Tetir, on a small road of 3.5 km long, crossing Tamariche.

The route to reach this mountain is ideal for a day of trekking , especially in the months of April and May in Fuerteventura .

Hermitage of San Andres , a small religious building existing since the mid-17th century, located on the outskirts of the town.

How to get there?

The village of Tetir is 8.5 km from Puerto del Rosario, a 10-minute drive away.

We proceed from Puerto del Rosario on the FV-10 towards Tetir.

And if you like, just in 10 minutes you can reach the picturesque village of Tefia.
