La Barca beach is located in Costa Calma , in the municipality of Pajara, on the south coast of the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
Located in the northern area of Sotavento beach, east of the Jandia’s Peninsula, it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
A very wide coastline of soft Caribbean sand reaches the crystalline and turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
On the beach you can enjoy a shallow natural lagoon, just 40 centimetres long, which is the most characteristic element of the beach.
La Barca beach is frequented by nudists and is the ideal place for lovers of long walks in contact with uncontaminated nature.
Although the southern part of Fuerteventura has the least windy beaches , the trade winds are very strong here .
And thanks to the favorable wind all year round, this beach is known internationally as the stage for the Windsurfing & Kiteboarding World Championships.
Characteristics of Playa de la Barca
Playa de la Barca is a large free beach and like almost all the beaches of Fuerteventura, it is not equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas.
This beach is supervised for most of the year and has services such as access for people with reduced mobility, toilets and parking.
La Barca beach, thanks to its shallow waters, is suitable for families with children, but also for singles and young people .
You should be careful when swimming, considering that ocean currents are quite unpredictable.
On this beach at sunset you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets at Fuerteventura, a perfect place for romantic moments during a honeymoon.
Lagoon-like features, the sun’s reflections on the ocean, the tides and the colourful show of the sails create a magical and one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
This natural place of Fuerteventura is a paradise for lovers of all water sports such as: surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing, both for beginners and professional surfers .
Nearby you will find modern accommodation facilities, bars and restaurants.
How to get there?
Getting to Playa de la Barca there are two accesses, the first following the FV-2 towards Morro Jable, turning at the Mirador del Salmo, a stretch of 15 km.
And the second of almost 7 km, continuing towards Hotel Tindaya and then towards Hotel Melia , with sections of dirt road.
We recommend a 4×4 car rental and drive carefully and with great caution, as the entire southern coast of Fuerteventura is very wild.
