The Cave of Viejo Reyes is located in the municipality of Pàjara in the south of the island of Fuerteventura.
This is a simple cave located on the beach with breathtaking colors and landscapes, that only Fuerteventura can offer.
It is more like a beach cave than a sea cave, but it is definitely worth a visit for the unique and romantic view.
The beach of Los Viejo Reyes, where the cave is located, is a quiet beach, uncrowded and ideal for nudism.
More than 800 meters long and on average 18 meters wide, this beach of Fuerteventura is characterized of fine golden sand mixed with black sand, surrounded by piles of shells.
The cave of Viejo Reyes is surrounded by cliffs that give it a wild and rugged character, as does the road to reach it.
Before the European conquest, the area around the beach with the same name, was frequented by majoreros, so called the inhabitants of Fuerteventura.
The strong winds that prevail on this stretch of coast, the waves and its rough waters almost all year round make it an ideal place for lovers of surfing and kitesurfing.
When to go?
It’s best to visit this cave at low tide, as at high tide the beach is covered by water anch you can’t see it.
Along this stretch of coast of Fuerteventura, at high tide when the waves reach the coast it is not always easy enough to avoid them.
So you have to plan the best times to visit it, consulting a tide table, accessing the beach through some stairs that are located at the beginning of it.
To visit the Cave of Los Reyes, you need to bring comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen for your face.
Since the cave is located in an uncontaminated place, there are no bars, restaurants or anything else around and consequently you need to bring everything you need.
Without a doubt, this natural place is one of the most beautiful caves in Fuerteventura , located on one of the most beautiful beaches of the island.
How to get there?
Getting to the cave of Viejo Reyes cave is approximately 67 km from Puerto del Rosario , a journey that can be done in approximately 1 hour.
Starting from Puerto del Rosario, continue on the FV-2 towards Morro Jable for 50 km, then continue on the FV-56 towards Costa Calma, Playa de La Pared .
The cave is very easy to find, once you arrive at Playa del Viejo Reyes you go down the steps and continue along the coast.
To reach the cave of Playa del Viejo Reyes there are no infrastructures, as the stretch of road to get there is very wild.
Long stretches of dirt road and ravines called “ barrancos ” by the islanders make the use of a suitable car essential.
