Ajuy caves at Fuerteventura

The Ajuy caves , located in the municipality of Betancuria, are the most famous caves at Fuerteventura, the only ones with special indications and an official route to visit them.

The caves are a protected natural area , dug over the centuries by the ocean, which drop sheer onto the cliffs.

There are two caves, one next to the other, and to see them both is not easy at all, but they are really very suggestive.

The Natural Monument of the Caves is located on the spectacular beach of Ajuy, a magical place that offers an incredible view.

Playa Ajuy is generally windy and its waters are characterized by strong currents, often unsuitable for swimming.

The caves of Ajuy are very deep and must have been tunnels to connect the village with the small bay where they are located.

The Ajuy Caves are a very popular tourist attraction for anyone visiting the island of Fuerteventura, at any time of the day and year.

Whether in the sunlight or at sunset, these caves are always a true spectacle of colors and pure magic, impossible to miss.

In this natural monument, nature surprises you with its colors and views, as does the fishing village of Ajuy, overlooking a beach of glittering black sand.

A natural wonder that leaves you speechless with its grandeur, while telling the geological history of the island, named a Biosphere Reserve.

Here you can see the oldest fossil dunes at Fuerteventura, evidence of the geological formation of the island and of marine animals now extinct.

From the height of these yellow waves crashing on the rocks, you can enjoy the view of the pretty village and the black crescent of the beach of the same name.

How to get there?

The Ajuy Caves are approximately 50 km from Puerto del Rosario, a 50-minute drive.

Starting from Puerto del Rosario, follow the FV-20 towards Morro Jable and then the FV-30 towards Ajuy.

Drive to the village of Ajuy and park your car in the parking lot near the beach, where you will notice a path that goes up the cliff.

The only thing to do is follow a path for about 100 meters on foot to the caves and once you reach the caves you can go down the stairs and enter inside them.
