All over the island there are 11 beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag in 2024, an internationally recognized and well-deserved symbol for the entire island.
The Blue Flag is an annual award, a European system of environmental quality certification developed by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).
Overall, 60 Blue Flags were awarded across the Canary Islands , out of a total of 729 across Spain, 18 more than in 2023.
Thanks to the territory, the absence of pollution and industry, and respect for the environment and environmental regulations, the island’s beaches have received 11 awards of excellence.
Fuerteventura’s beaches have received the European quality label for another consecutive year after meeting a series of criteria for excellence throughout the year:
- in terms of water quality
- of the bathing area
- the corresponding security services
- accessibility improvements
- current environmental regulations
- adequate health infrastructure to ensure the health and safety of the people who use them
Blue Flag Beaches by Municipality
The best Blue Flag beaches in Fuerteventura include all the municipalities and cities on the island , an award that should be worn with pride.
Naturally, a distinctive quality is a strong element, especially in times when there is a need to relaunch the economy in all possible sectors.
This represents all the efforts made in conserving the environment and promoting sustainable tourism on the island.
In this sense, having these Blue Flags allows us to offer various guarantees to visitors, guaranteeing the use of truly safe tourist spaces.
The island of Fuerteventura offers an impressive variety of landscapes, including cliffs and sand dunes, craters, mountains, and beaches of every color and taste.
It is no surprise that, like its Canarian sisters, Fuerteventura is one of the most popular destinations for Europeans all year round.
Many people wonder what to see in Fuerteventura , what are the most beautiful attractions, the unmissable activities and excursions.
But the answer is simple.
Every corner of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands is capable of enchanting even the least sensitive tourist.
Blue Flag for every city and municipality
The municipality of La Oliva has obtained the Blue Flag recognition for 3 beaches:
- Playa Corralejo Viejo
- Grandes Playas , which belongs to the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park
- La Concha beach, a magical beach for all ages, where you can admire the magic of the most beautiful sunsets on the island
The Municipality of Puerto del Rosario has been awarded the Blue Flag quality mark for three beaches:
- Playa Blanca , a beach of soft, white sand, also accessible via the Playa de Los Pozos – Playa Blanca maritime promenade
- Playa de Los Pozos , an urban beach located in the heart of Fuerteventura’s capital, has won this award for the tenth consecutive time.
- Puerto Lajas beach, a spectacular beach of black volcanic sand
In the Municipality of Antigua only one of its beaches has been awarded the Blue Flag:
- Playa El Castillo , located in a small bay of golden sand that embraces the crystal clear, turquoise waters of the ocean
Pájara Municipality has obtained the Blue Flag recognition for 4 beaches:
- Butihondo beach offers an enchanting panorama of the sea’s colorful spectacle, surrounded by black volcanic rocks.
- Costa Calma beach , a few steps from the city center and immersed in wild and uncontaminated landscapes
- Matorral beach with soft white sand is one of the few equipped beaches in Fuerteventura and one of the least windy beaches .
The municipality of Tuineje has been awarded the Blue Flag for its 1 beach:
- Gran Tarajal beach, where the black sand creates spectacular contrasts with the thousand shades of color of the ocean
The beaches are the strong point of the oldest of the Canary Islands, even if there are so many things to see in Fuerteventura .
A single holiday wouldn’t be enough to understand the true essence of this slow island.
