Despite the ever-present trade winds and the rough waters of the Atlantic, it is not difficult to find calm sea in Fuerteventura.
The wind on this island is an ally for those who love water sports, but sometimes annoying for those who want to relax while enjoying the benefits of the sea.
But on the island there are many beaches with circular constructions made of volcanic stones, which shelter from the wind and make it possible to relax on the beach even on windy days.
When you want to go to the beach in Fuerteventura, you have to take the tides into account; on some beaches it’s better to go at high tide, on others at low tide.
Without a doubt, the top spot for beaches with calm seas in Fuerteventura is Playa Chica in Puerto del Rosario, a veritable swimming pool all year round or El Castillo in Caleta de Fuste.
La Concha beach in El Cotillo, thanks to its shell shape, is sheltered and allows for swimming in complete tranquility.
Other beaches with calm seas on the island
Mal Nombre beach between Costa Calma and Morro Jable , it is best to go there at low tide and head left, going past the dune and some rocks.
It’s best to visit the enchanting beaches of the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park at high tide, because at low tide the sea retreats significantly and it’s difficult to swim.
If you’re looking for a beach close to the city, with showers and bars nearby, Playa Blanca in Puerto del Rosario is ideal, as it’s sheltered from waves and currents.
Quite close to Puerto del Rosario are the enchanting beaches of Caleta de Fuste , where you can find calm seas and shallow waters.
Sotavento beach, the most popular for breathtaking landscapes with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
At high tide, a wonderful lagoon forms on this beach, a little shallow for swimming, but ideal for relaxing and enjoying the postcard-perfect view.
The sense of freedom that Fuerteventura gives you can be experienced even better by exploring it with a boat rental immersed in the beauty of the ocean.
What is the least windy area of Fuerteventura?
Many people love the wild and unspoiled nature of Fuerteventura, but they prefer to choose the less windy area of the island.
Fuerteventura’s climate , ideal for a relaxing and wellness holiday on the beach, is also thanks to the ever-present trade winds.
Without wind, the island of Fuerteventura would be unlivable with a torrid and suffocating climate like that of the Sahara Desert.
However, Fuerteventura is able to satisfy everyone, even those who don’t particularly like the wind, without giving up the beauty of the island.
The least windy area of Fuerteventura is obviously its southern part with very long coastlines of breathtaking beaches of soft white sand.
For those who don’t like the wind, it would be enough to avoid visiting the island during the windiest months, from June to August, or choose beaches with calm seas.
